For those of us who believe that we should be doing much more to end the genocide in Darfur, the divestment option is a two-fer: it puts meaningful pressure on the Sudanese government to stop its support of the janjaweed militia, and it keeps the political fires stoked here at home for the U.S. government to do more.

Sudan is a big deal w/in evangelical circles--see how Brownback was trying to use it to bolster his base. Dem state legislators who propose a similar measure stand to muddy the waters for some voters and plant their feet firmly on the right side of a winning issue.
If it's the right thing to do anyway, why not lead the way? We can't give up on doing morally good things internationally just because the language was co-opted by cons for Iraq.
